The Book: A True Story of Murder and a Mother's Forgiveness
When Brian Muha (pictured left) was shot and killed on May 31, 1999, his life was cut tragically short. At eighteen years old, he had his future before him. College graduation, a satisfying career, perhaps marriage, and a family. Family reunions and laughing with friends. Prayer. Travel. Hard work. Lots of Lebanese food. He had nothing but time until he had no time at all.
But his death is not what Brian Muha will be remembered for. Brian's spirit lives on today, stronger than ever, in the lives touched by the work done in his name and in his memory. Why? Because his mother has seen to that. This petite, stubborn, determined, delightful, faithful woman of God was not going to let a beating and a bullet deprive the world of the joy and the good she knew her son would have brought to it— and was already bringing to it. But she could only make that choice because of her intentional and steadfast decision to rely on, trust in, and cooperate with the God she loved and needed so much.

The Brian Muha Foundation/The Run The Race Club has been present since the year 2000 - providing exceptional enrichment and leadership development opportunities to young people in Columbus, Cleveland and Steubenville, Ohio. We give love and hope to children and young people through relationships with dedicated volunteers, mentors and tutors who offer opportunities and activities that allow them to grow academically, physically, spiritually and emotionally. We see the beautiful value and dignity in each and every child and we have made it our mission to help them run the race of life and change the world.

ST. CHARLES PREPATORY SCHOOL & FRANCISCAN UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIPS
Brian graduated from St. Charles High School. An endowed scholarship is established in his name.
Brian finished his first year at Franciscan University and enrolled in summer classes there.
Brian wanted to be a doctor and help children, especially inner-city children.
Because of the excellent educations both schools offer, our first mission for
The Brian Muha Memorial Foundation was to offer scholarships to both schools.
To date we have been able to award scholarships to over 50 young men and women altogether.
Brian's Journey...
Brian Charles Richard Muha was born on July 23, 1980 at Deaconess Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio but grew up in Westerville, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus.
Brian attended St. Paul School and St. Charles Preparatory High School. Because of on-going pain in his heels and ankles, Brian couldn't play sports until he was 14 years old. He then went out for the football team and became a starting running back and defensive back. He lettered three years and also lettered in lacrosse and wrestling. Brian also liked to ski, camp and hike.
Brian was in the National Honor Society, won Algebra, Chemistry, and Latin awards and took Honors and Advanced Placement courses in school. He was the freshman class president, student council secretary and student council vice president. Brian was the St. Charles delegate to Buckeye Boys' State in his senior year.
Brian was a loving and caring person who always wanted to help others. He was a regular volunteer at Broadleigh Elementary School, Grant Hospital, and the St. John Community Center. Brian was offered a scholarship to Franciscan University but asked that it be used for someone who wouldn’t be able to attend the school if they didn’t have that help.
Entering his first year of college with 15 credits because of his Advanced Placement work, Brian attended Franciscan University in Steubenville from August 1998 to May 1999. He was in the Honors Program. His goal was to become a doctor.
On May 31, 1999, Brian's short life was ended when two killers who chose Brian's off-campus house at random broke in, assaulted Brian and his friend Aaron Land, and killed them. But Brian did not live - or die - in vain. His kind and charitable spirit lives on in his family and friends who are now committed to helping others in his name.
